What's The Difference?

There has been a debate for years of what an antique is, as some people say that an antique is a considerably aged object valued for its artistic and historical significance.

Usually the term refers to objects that are more than hundred years old. Some antique and collectible dealers have attempted to lower the standards of an antique as they believe that items that are over fifty years old should be considered as antique.

However, some antique dealers say that the fifty years definition lowers its standard to a point where a trader would sell collectibles under the name of antique. This leads us to the definition of collectible.

Collectible and Vintage definition

A collectible is a valuable object that is less than hundred years old. It is distinguished from an antique for an antique is more than a hundred years old.

Another word, Vintage, is a term initially applied to the age of a wine bottle. The name was hijacked and is used now to describe an item that is less than twenty-five years.

Vintage was applied in the period of between 1960-1979. However, it should be noted that antique and collectible labels have no real effect on an item’s value as the value is determined more by the buyer (you).

There are rare antiques that are sold for less than new collectibles. This is because there is less demand for some types of antiques and high demand for some types of new collectibles.
